ReliOn Platinum
The ReliOn Platinum is my favorite fingerprick blood glucose meter. After trying about 5 other monitors through trial and error, this one won out for consistency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
Best for: Paying out of pocket without insurance. Most cost-effective option with reliable accuracy.
Why I Use It
- Consistent readings - Most reliable of all the meters I've tried
- Compact size - Much smaller than cheap Amazon options (some are the size of a brick)
- Affordable strips - ~$0.20 per strip at Walmart
- Fast results - 4 seconds
Specifications
- Test time: 4 seconds
- Sample size: 0.6 µL
- Size: 77.1 x 48.6 x 15.3 mm
- Battery: Two CR2032 lithium batteries
- Warranty: 3 years
- No coding required
Cost Breakdown
- Meter kit: ~$20 at Walmart
- 50 strips: ~$10.50 (~$0.21/strip)
- 100 strips: ~$20 (~$0.20/strip)
Compare this to brand-name strips that can run $1+ per strip without insurance. The savings add up fast when you're testing multiple times a day.
Features
- Target range indicator - Shows if you're high, low, or in range at a glance
- Test strip ejector - Easy disposal without touching the used strip
- Bluetooth enabled - Connects to mySugr app for logging
- Meets FDA accuracy requirements
