Construction Takeoff Privacy Policy
Effective October 11, 2026 · macOS app
Plans, measurements and models
Construction Takeoff, also identified as Takeoff X, is developed by Mason Earl. It does not require an account. The app reads documents you choose to import and stores project files, measurements, annotations, model properties, estimates, Company codebooks and recovery data on your Mac. Plan geometry extraction, optical character recognition and estimate calculations run locally. Your plans, models and estimates are not sent to a developer-operated server. Exported project folders can include source plans and specifications; share them only with recipients you choose.
Optional AI clients and MCP
The optional MCP companion runs separately in a client you configure. It can read saved projects in the folder you configure and prepare model-edit proposals. When local AI control is enabled, a connected client can also read open projects, preview supported changes and request takeoff, estimate and project edits through the running app. Supported live edits can apply without a separate in-app confirmation when local review is turned off. Local AI control is enabled and review is off by default. In AI Changes, you can disable local AI control or require review. Depending on the tool, requiring review queues a change for in-app approval or blocks it until you use its native review flow. Disabling live control does not remove a separately configured companion’s access to saved files; remove that client connection or change its configured folder to change that access. A client may transmit data it reads to its selected AI provider under that provider’s privacy policy. Construction Takeoff does not automatically start an AI client or transmit your projects to an AI provider. Only connect clients you trust and give them access to the project folders you intend to share.
Supplier outreach and email
Supplier outreach can retain contacts, drafts, private notes, selected document links and staged attachment copies locally. When you approve an email in the native Outbox, the connected AI can export that exact message and its attachments to your chosen email provider and record the provider result. The provider receives the recipients, message and selected files under its own privacy policy. Private estimator notes are excluded from outgoing packets. No email-provider credentials are stored by Construction Takeoff. Send history, recovery copies and staged documents remain in Application Support on this Mac, outside estimate Undo and project exports. Removing a file from the document tray does not erase copies retained by an existing send request or recall mail. Exported attachment previews and copies are separate local files; remove retained files and copies when no longer needed.
Apple services
Earth map features use Apple’s map and search services. Map content and place requests are handled by Apple under its privacy policy. App Store downloads, purchases and any diagnostics you choose to share with Apple are also handled through Apple. These platform services are separate from the local storage of your takeoff documents.
External links
Company website, web-search, LinkedIn, Python download and other external links open in the application you choose for that link. A company search can include the selected company name in its query. The destination service handles that request under its own privacy policy; opening these links is optional.
Analytics and advertising
The app keeps diagnostic logs and crash reports locally on your Mac. They can include project names, document paths, annotation or signature text, recent actions, system information and error details. Support actions prepare an email in your email app, where you can review or remove the included information before sending; reports are not sent automatically. The app does not include advertising, third-party tracking or developer-operated analytics collection. It does not sell your personal information.
Your choices and retention
Projects, preferences and local diagnostics remain on your Mac. Deleting a project in the app removes it from the project list and moves its verified project files into a Deleted Projects recovery folder in the project library. This is recoverable deletion, not permanent erasure. Recovery archives and diagnostic logs are not automatically purged. Project packages can also retain save checkpoints and backups, and older preference data may retain legacy project information. To remove retained data permanently, quit the app and remove the relevant local files and retained copies using Finder; contact support if you need help identifying them. Remove exported files and copies from locations you manage separately. If you store files in a cloud-synced folder, that service controls synchronization and its own retained copies. Removing the app does not necessarily remove these files or cloud backups.
Support and contact
If you contact hi@masonearl.com, Mason receives the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message and attachments, to respond to your request. Avoid sending confidential plans unless they are needed for the support request. Contact the same address for privacy questions or to request deletion of support correspondence, subject to any retention required by law. This policy will be updated if the app’s data practices change.
